Posted on behalf of Tim Fail, Wayne Memorial Hospital
In my 11 years at Wayne Memorial Hospital I’ve learned a thing or two. One piece of advice I would offer to any Healthcare IT executive would be to take advantage of all that scripting tools can offer.
If You Can Think It, You Can Script It.
It really is that easy. Any user has the ability to easily build scripts and complete near real-time integration in a matter of hours, rather than days or weeks. These reports are available 24/7 for any users. By automating redundant tasks we were able to run reports on a scheduled basis, drop reports to file servers, make sure inactive dictionaries are managed effectively and to copy dictionaries. With these systems in place, it was also possible to use scripting to integrate between various vendor solutions, streamlining data sharing within the hospital.
Scripting Produces Results
One script alone saved us approximately $38,000 in the first year; by automating the Material Management ordering and AP process with a 3rd party vendor GHX, we were able to eliminate paper requisitions. Scripting at Wayne Memorial Hospital has also completely transformed our daily operations; we’re now more efficient and in turn provide effective care through better data maintenance.
My colleague, Joe Austin and I will be presenting a webcast based on our own experiences with scripting. If you’d like to learn more about the solution we’re using, and our knowledge please join the webcast through the link below.
Hope to see you there!
