McKesson Announces BetterHealth 2020 Update

Just over a year ago, we announced Better Health 2020™, McKesson’s view of the challenges and changes our customers and the industry will face throughout this decade as health reform continues. To address those challenges, we’ve focused on delivering on our current commitments while adding new solutions and capabilities that support population management, care coordination and capacity management. In addition, we’ve expanded our physician services offering to better support the needs of health systems with employed physicians and to further strengthen our portfolio for independent practices

This week we are taking an exciting step to accelerate the rollout of Better Health 2020 with several internal organization changes aimed at enabling you to achieve better outcomes with our solutions. For example, we’re expanding RelayHealth to 1,000+ people with a concentrated focus on the capabilities needed for new care models, such as coordinating care and managing populations. Similarly, our Health Solutions business is expanding to focus on value-based reimbursement and automating the payment process and decision-making between payers and providers. Our goal is help reduce administrative costs, streamline the payment process and improve financial decision-making.

In addition, we are combining Paragon®, Horizon Clinicals®, Revenue Cycle and Managed Services into a single organization known as Enterprise Information Solutions, or EIS. Jim Pesce will report to me as president of this new business, and Nimesh Shah will continue to lead Managed Services reporting to Jim. Most of your daily contacts in sales, services and
support will remain the same. 

In addition to optimal alignment, the creation of EIS will enable us to better support Horizon-to-Paragon migrations by leveraging employee expertise in a broader way. We also will continue to focus on meeting the needs of our Paragon and classic revenue cycle customers (STAR, Series, HealthQuest), and we will continue to execute on our strategic plans for Horizon Clinicals and Managed Services. Jim has led the Paragon business for more than a decade with a consistent track record of product development. He has great expertise, and his passion and commitment are second to none.

Rod O’Reilly has assumed a new role as senior vice president of Strategy for McKesson Technology Solutions focused on accelerating our Better Health 2020 strategy. With reform and cost pressures driving the need for new forms of clinical integration, care coordination and financial management, we will continue to work on preparing you for what’s ahead while
managing successfully in the current healthcare environment.

In establishing EIS, I want to be clear that we remain fully committed to support the needs of our EHR and revenue cycle customers, and there continues to be no forced migration from Horizon to Paragon. Both our Paragon and Horizon customers are continuing to prepare for ICD-10 and meaningful use, and we recognize that you are counting on us for high-quality service, support and innovation. We also recognize the importance of continuing to equip you with solutions that help you drive clinician satisfaction and facilitate health IT adoption.
