Looks Like We Got Someone's Attention: Clarifying Who We Are

The other day we sent out emails to a number of McKesson hospital users inviting them to check out the network.  It turns out, this generated a response from an organization (not McKesson) that was looking to further clarify who we are as a network to both current and potential members.  While our quick growth and timely response from another party indicates that we're potentially providing valuable tools to McKesson users, it's also important all members hear about who exactly we are from us, not others.  So with that being said, here's what we're all about...

First and foremost, we are all about the users.  That's why it's important that all of you know that McKesson Social will always be free for all members.  The very basis for why we started Health IT Social in the first place was because we believe healthcare users should not have to pay to network--period.  Developing a complete forum for all users to access is too important to filter just because a hospital can't cover membership costs.  We've also found that with models like these, most of the people who do pay to join are third party vendors.  While vendors do participate on McKesson Social, roughly 85% of our members network-wide are users--a percentage that is atypical of any other forum to date.

Another question that came up was regarding our independent status, which is frankly as independent as it gets since we don't currently have an affiliation with McKesson.  To that end however, if McKesson ever wanted to get involved with the network on any level, we would love the opportunity.  While there are traditional avenues for users to interact directly with McKesson through their site, we've spoken with them about being another bridge to reach out to their customer base.

Ultimately, we want to make something clear to all our members.  While there are moments like this where we have to ensure there's transparency about who we are, the true answer to what makes this network a, quote, "independent McKesson user group", is you.  You are the ones providing life to the network.  While we would love a relationship with McKesson, our focus remains on providing the latest tools available to users who have the desire and ability to share best practice with other McKesson hospitals.  As long as you're all in with contributing, we'll continue to help you connect for free with other members who have the same issues.
